The earth day movement started back in 1970, with strong minded ambitious environmental activists pushing the envelope to ensure cleaner earth for future generations. Since there has been progress in better handling of the Earth's resources and our home. But I cannot help but think that there has been strides promoting a Green society than actually strides in creating a Green society.
As stated by Pete McCloskey, the original Earth day sponsor in 1970, The gatherings themselves, he recalled, came as a revelation -- not celebrity-driven or corporate-sponsored but a pure outpouring of anger and hope, with people smashing donated cars with sledgehammers and planting flower gardens in city squares. That passion has been lost by the environmental activists, politician, and some of society. You see being Green is hip nowadays, but going green makes pockets a little lighter. So the financial complexity of spending now and giving up some comfort is stalling the progression of environmentally balanced Earth.
Architecture has made great strides in creating a Green society, but that is only one aspect of a complex equation.Architects have to rely on the client to want to go green, follow the proper rules which can sometimes hinder innovative designs, and hope that their green solutions fit within the budget.B:ut we need to other components to want to protect the environment such as, oil companies, politicians, car companies, scientists, universities, contractors, and many others. But right now green trumps, to bad it's not being green, but making green.
